Valerio's Blast Leads Scrappers to Sweep of Spikes
One night after securing the teams first series win of the season, the Scrappers added on their first sweep of the season with a 3-1 victory over the State College Spikes. Luis DeJesus added another stellar start and Charlie Valerio launched his first homerun of the year in the 1st to give the Scrappers the lead for good.
DeJesus worked six innings allowing only three hits and one unearned run. He walked one while striking out two. Jack Wagoner followed DeJesus and went two perfect innings with three strikeouts. Enosil Tejeda worked a perfect 1-2-3 9th inning for his 2nd save of the season.
The Scrappers got all the offense they needed in the bottom of the 1st inning. With two outs, Joe Wendle tripled into the right field corner. Charlie Valerio followed Wendle and sent a 2-2 pitch into the Scrappers bullpen in right field for a 2-0 lead that the Scrappers would never surrender. With the win the Scrappers get a measure of payback on the Spikes who swept them last weekend in State College.
The Scrappers will begin a three-game road trip tomorrow at Williamsport. First pitch is at 5:05. You can catch all the action with the "voice of the Scrappers", Tim Pozsgai on 1570 WHTX or on mvscrappers.com
