Naturals introduce team doctors

Daugherty, Dougherty head Northwest Arkansas medical staff

Springdale, Ark. -- The Northwest Arkansas Naturals announced Thursday that Dr. Chris Daugherty and Dr. John Dougherty, D.O. FAOASM, both from the Agility Center in Bentonville, have been named by the Kansas City Royals as the team physicians for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

Dr. Chris Dougherty received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, MO. He completed an Orthopedic Surgery residency in Tulsa, Oklahoma and went on to complete a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Kentucky Sports Medicine clinic. He is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and specializes in sports surgeries. Dr. Dougherty is recognized as a leader in Arthroscopic surgery and teaches orthopedic surgeons arthroscopic surgery both nationally and internationally. He is also recognized as an authority in core strength and injury prevention and has developed injury reduction and performance enhancing rehabilitation. Dr. Dougherty's patients range from grade school through the professional ranks. New surgical procedures and implants such as a device for collarbone fractures that allows return to activity in one week are among his current research activities. Chris has a passion for baseball which ranges from treating the athlete to helping coach little league.

After receiving his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Dr. John Dougherty completed his residency at the University of North Texas - Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX. He later returned to Kansas City and completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine with the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He has been in private practice since 1995 and is board certified in Family Practice and Sports Medicine. In 2006, Dr. Dougherty was recognized as a leader in Sports Medicine with the award of Fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. His experience working with baseball includes High School, Collegiate and USA Baseball. Dr. Dougherty is nationally recognized for pre-participation physical examinations, having been an author for the universally recognized guidelines.

Dr. John Dougherty is a strong believer in education as the key to understanding. He emphasizes this element in his every day practice while caring for individuals engaged in sport, exercise and physical activity at the recreational, industrial, competitive, professional or elite level. The focus of his practice is in biomechanics as it relates to all aspects of joint and back pain, as well as issues in athletics and injury prevention.

A lifelong baseball fan originally from the St. Louis area, John and his wife Sara, along with their four boys, have lived in Southwest Missouri for the past fifteen years.
