Olympic Trials Complete, Ems Return Home

July 4, 2012

During the last two weeks, some of the best athletes in the country put on a show at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials. There were world records broken and many athletes punched their ticket to represent the United States in the Olympic Games in London. Now that is over, the Emeralds return home to PK Park.

The Emeralds come back tonight after traveling on a four city, 14 day road trip. The team went 6-7 on the trip and look to come on strong at home to take on the Everett AquaSox and the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.

Recap of the Road Trip
A trio of Ems are swinging hot bats returning home. 1B Goose Kallunki is hitting .345, 1B Clark Murphy is batting .324 and OF Alberth Martinez is hitting a .313 clip.

Several new Ems joined the team on the road:
C Dane Phillips: Was a 2012 Padres second round draft pick out of Oklahoma City University. He is batting .310 in 12 games with the Ems thus far.

OF Jeremy Baltz: Was the other Padres second round pick in the 2012 draft out of St. John's. He is batting .269 in 12 games with the Ems.
P Roman Madrid: Another 2012 Padres draft pick out of University of Central Florida. He joins his UCF teammate on the Ems, Ronnie Richardson. He has pitched in four games and picked up the save in his first two appearances.

Looking ahead to the AquaSox:
The Ems just finished up a three game series in Everett and return home to play them in three more. The Ems went 1-2 in the series featuring a couple one-run games and a 10-1 blowout of the Ems. The probables for Everett are Ambioris Hidalgo, Jose Valdivia and Victor Sanchez. Hidalgo will start Wednesday and has posted a 3-9 record with a 5.65 ERA between Low-A Clinton and Everett. Valdivia starts Thursday, who has an 0-2 record with a 4.63 ERA. Sanchez wraps up the series, who has a 2-0 record with a 2.92 ERA.
