Zephyrs Hand RedHawks 11-1 Loss
Metairie, La. -- Brad Hand tossed eight scoreless innings and the New Orleans Zephyrs (46-42) hit a pair of three-run homers in an 11-1 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks before 2,997 Thursday night at Zephyr Field.
Hand (7-4), who entered Thursday with a 1.93 ERA at home, kept the RedHawks offense off-kilter all night, scattering four hits over a season-high eight frames. He walked three and struck out six. The lefty only had multiple runners on base once and allowed just two runners in scoring position.
New Orleans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second, scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI single. Two more followed in the third on RBI singles by Bryan Petersen and Murphy.
Mike Cervenak hit a three-run home run just past the center field fence in the fourth to make it 7-0.
Luke Montz drove home each of the final four runs for the Zephyrs. He knocked an RBI double in the fifth and then hit a three-run homer off of rehabbing Astros reliever Wilton Lopez in the seventh.
Mike Hessman broke up the shutout in the ninth inning with a solo homer out to center field for his PCL-leading 27th home run of the season.
RedHawks starting pitcher Brian Bass struggled over a season-low four innings. Bass (1-4) surrendered seven runs-four earned-and nine hits with three walks and a strikeout.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak and marked the second time in six games the RedHawks lost by 10 or more runs.
