Arenado, USA Win Futures Game

Games showcased Texas League talent
July 8, 2012
All-Star Games are often dominated by pitching, but Sunday afternoon's SiriusXM Futures Game turned into an offensive show. The USA team scored 17 runs on 17 hits and defeated the World Team by a score of 17-5 at Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium.

It was the most runs ever scored in a Futures Game. Tulsa's Nolan Arenado played a role in the fireworks finishing 1-3 with one run scored and one run batted in. His RBI came on a single up the middle in the USA's big nine-run sixth inning.

Owasso's Dylan Bundy, a Baltimore Orioles farmhand, was the winning pitcher in the game. Bundy allowed three hits but was able to complete a scoreless top of the fourth for the USA.

Tulsa manager Duane Espy served as a coach under manager George Brett for the USA Team.

Former Drillers pitcher Edwar Cabrera was originally selected to play for the World Team, but he was replaced when he was briefly called to the majors by the Colorado Rockies.

The elite game featured 12 players that have played in the Texas League this season. Nine of the 12 were on hand for the Texas League All-Star Game that was played at ONEOK Field on June 28.
