Captains Hold on in Extra's
(Bowling Green, KY) - The Lake County Captains (9-9, 39-47) defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods (10-8, 48-40) by a final of 7-6 in eleven innings at Bowling Green Ballpark. Lake County used a sacrifice fly by Bryson Myles in the 11th and the Captains held on for the win. Lake County finished the road trip at 3-3.
Lake County scored first, in the third inning. When Francisco Lindor singled home Todd Hankins and it was 1-0 Captains. In the bottom of the inning, Bowling Green took the lead by scoring two runs highlighted by an RBI single by Ryan Brett.
Lake County re took the lead in the fifth inning on back to back RBI singles by Todd Hankins and Jose Ramirez. Lake County lead the game 3-2. The Captains added a run in the top of the seventh inning when Jose Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to right field and the score was 4-2 Captains.
Jeff Malm hit a homerun his tenth of the season in the bottom of the seventh and it was a 4-3 Lake County lead. The Captains scored single runs in the eighth and ninth inning to take a 6-3 lead headed to the bottom of the ninth inning.
In the bottom of the ninth, Jeff Johnson entered to earn the save and pitched to Cameron Seitzer and struck him out. Johnson then went up in the count 0-2 to Todd Glaesmann and then was removed from the game with an injury. Francisco Valera entered the ballgame and walked the bases loaded and then allowed a fielders choice which scored a run and an two out two run double to Taylor Motter and the game was tied at 6-6 headed to extra innings.
RHP Joe Colon (7-8) took to the mound for Lake County. Colon didn't end up with a decision. He pitched six innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, two walks, and had six strike outs. Kyle Petter pitched two innings, allowed one hit, one earned run, two walks and one strikeout. Johnson entered and pitched just a third of an inning. Francisco Valera (3-3) got the win after pitching two and two thirds innings, allowing one hit, three earned runs, three walks and struck out three.
RHP Roberto Gomez (8-2) took the mound for Bowling Green. Gomez didn't get a decision. He pitched four innings, allowed four hits and one earned run. Gomez walked one and fanned two. Andrew Bellatti (2-3) was saddled with the loss. Bellatti wnt two and one third innings, allowing two hits, two earned runs, four walks, two strikeouts and one homer. The Hot Rods used a total of five pitches on the night.
Lake County will enjoy an off-day on Tuesday and return to action on Wednesday night at Classic Park. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will be making their only trip to Classic Park in two years. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
