Mimi Walker becomes director of special events for Charleston
November 21, 2005
CHARLESTON, SC -- Charleston RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols has announced the hiring of Mimi Walker as the club's Director of Special Events.

Walker replaces Dale Stickney, who held the position for more than six years. Stickney left to devote more time to her family and to start her own business.

"We were sad to see Dale leave as she did an outstanding job, but at the same time we are very pleased to have Mimi join us," said Echols. "She is a very talented individual who possesses a great work ethic and gives great attention to detail."

A native of Greensboro, NC, who graduated the University of Georgia in 1999 with a degree in communications, Walker returns to special events after a year in sales.

She spent four years with the Charleston County Parks Department as a recreation program specialist in charge of special events. There, she coordinated and implemented special events throughout the nine county parks, and obtained sponsorships and coordinated promotions for all festivals, events and programs. Walker also worked directly with volunteers and supervised a part-time staff.

She also spent a year with the Greene County School District in Greensboro, GA, and a year as an information manager for the University of Georgia Police Department.

Walker is an avid volunteer, having been recognized by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador, and has coached tennis and gymnastics with the Special Olympics. She also has coached girls' soccer on James Island.

"I am very excited to be returning to the area of special events and to have an association with the Charleston RiverDogs," said Walker. "I look forward to promoting 'fun' around baseball, Riley Park and other endeavors that the RiverDogs have an involvement in."

Walker began her responsibilities on Nov. 14.
