Timber Rattlers Slither Past Captains 5-3
(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (9-11) dropped the game on Thursday to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (11-9) by a final of 5-3. The Timber Rattlers scored three times in the sixth inning to take the two run lead. Brandon Macias led off with a double and scored on a single by Ben McMahan. McMahan scored on a double by Nick Ramirez and that gave Wisconsin a 4-3 lead. The Timber Rattlers scored another run when Lance Roenicke singled home Ramirez and the score was 5-3.
Wisconsin scored first in the opening frame. A leadoff double by Chadwin Stang and an error moved Stang to third base. With one out, Ben McMahan lifted a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Stang and the score was 1-0 Timber Rattlers.
Lake County answered in their half of the first inning, Jose Ramirez and Luigi Rodriguez walked with one out and then Jordan Smith un-loaded his fifth homerun of the season to right field and Lake County was up a pair 3-1. It became a 3-2 game when Mike Garza doubled and scored on the Lance Roenicke singled him home and the lead was cut to just a one run game heading to the third inning of play.
There was a total of seven double plays in the ballgame. Lake County hit into a total of four while they just turned three. The Captains have now turned 90 twin killings on the season.
LHP Shawn Morimando (3-2) took to the mound for Lake County. Shawn did not get a decision and pitched five innings, he gave up four hits, two runs and one was earned. Morimando walked four and fanned two. Enosil Tejeda (0-1) pitched two innings and took the loss. He allowed four hits three earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. Kyle Petter pitched a perfect final two frames while striking out three.
RHP Chad Thompson (4-2) took the mound for Wisconsin, and earned the win. Thompson pitched five innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs two walks and the one homerun to Jordan Smith. RHP Jacob Barnes got the save by twirling the final four innings. He allowed five hits two walks and three strikeouts. He did not allow any runs.
Friday kicks off Rock & Roll Weekend with plenty of Rock & Roll-themed contests and events along with prizes provided by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Friday's game is a Fireworks Friday night presented by State Farm Insurance Agent Wendy Doyle and 92.3 FM, The Fan. Fans will be treated to a post-game fireworks extravaganza with an Italian music theme in honor of Italian Heritage Night as the Captains feature traditional Italian fare including Cavatelli, Italian Sausage and Connolis. There will be a pre-game bocce ball tournament and the Italian National Anthem will be sung prior to the game. Game time is 7 PM. Lake County will send Mason Radeke (5-3, 3.23) to the hill to face RHP Matt Miller (7-6, 4.17) from Wisconsin.
