Sand Gnats take home ADDY award

Savannah wins advertising honor for 'Meet the Mets' campaign
February 18, 2008
SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Savannah Sand Gnats took home a Silver ADDY award in the television campaign category for their "Meet the Mets" campaign at the ADDY awards presentation held Friday night at the River Club in downtown Savannah. This is the second straight year the Gnats have taken home an ADDY award.

The winning campaign was shot like an old 1940s style news-reel commercial featuring members of the Sand Gnats staff dressed as Sand Gnat players. The creative aspect behind the Meet the Mets campaign was a collaborative effort between the Sand Gnats creative department and Popcorn Octane, LLC.

Guy Smith of Popcorn Octane directed, shot and edited the television spots while Ken Lewis of Post-One audio edited the radio spots. With the victory, the campaign is now eligible for district competition.

The awards are presented annually by the Savannah Advertising Federation. Last year, the Gnats and Popcorn Octane won the Judge's Choice Award for the overall television and radio campaign that featured the Gnats groundskeeper Chuck, Frank the Frosty Beverage Man and Gnate the Gnat answering letters from fans. The Gnats also won a Silver ADDY in the television campaign category for the same television spots.

The Sand Gnats open the home portion of the 2008 season Friday, April 11 versus the Columbus Catfish at 7 p.m. Season tickets and flex plans are currently on sale. For more information, visit www.sandgnats.com or call 912-351-9150.
