Robust offense fuels Hawks win
The Silver Hawks scored four runs in the second inning and ran the hit gamut in the frame. Marc Bourgeois started the scoring with an RBI triple. After an RBI single from Eric Groff and a double from Niko Gallego, Chris Ellison swatted a two-run home run.
Four more runs came across in the third inning, including a two-run home run from Groff. The Silver Hawks pounded out four doubles, one triple and two home runs in the game.
Matt Sample (4-1) took the win for the Silver Hawks, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings of three-hit baseball. Jordan Shippers (4-4), fresh off a no-hitter, lasted just 2.2 innings and allowed eight earned runs on nine hits.
Aguila, Bourgeois and Gallego each tallied two hits. Groff went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Ellison was 1-for-5 with four RBIs.
Lefty Andrew Barbosa did not factor in the decision, allowing three earned runs on five hits over 4.1 innings. Barbosa departed with the Silver Hawks leading 8-3, but did not qualify for a win.
Kaleb Fleck worked the eighth inning and allowed one earned run on three hits. Jake Barrett recorded the final three outs in a non-save situation.
The LumberKings left 12 men on base in the game and were 3-for-11 with runner's in scoring position.
The Silver Hawks have an off day Tuesday before beginning a six-game home stand at Coveleski Stadium.
