Senators Swept by New Britain as Losing Streak Hits Seven

July 20, 2012
The Harrisburg Senators and New Britain Rock Cats snuck in a pair of games around the rain drops on Friday night with New Britain winning both games by scores of 13-2 and 5-4. The Senators dropped under .500 for the first time since losing the first game of the season while New Britain improves to 56-43.

Oswaldo Arcia scorched the Senators in the game that was suspended from Thursday night, hitting a two-run home run and a grand slam. New Britain used two four-run innings and a five-run inning to cruise to the win. Sean Nicole had two hits in the game including his first home run on the season with the Sens. Jimmy Van Ostrand and Zach Walters also had two hits in the game. Paul Demny started and pitched the first three innings on Thursday, allowing four runs, before the rains forced the suspension of the game. With the loss, Demny drops to 6-5 on the season.

In the second game of the evening, Danny Rosenbaum started and allowed four runs in the second putting the Senators in a 4-0 hole. Harrisburg came back with a run in the bottom of the third inning on three errors by New Britain. Then in the fourth inning, they plated two more on three consecutive two-out hits. Zach Walters tripled, Destin Hood singled Walters in and then Sean Nicol doubled in Hood trimming the New Britain lead to 4-3. In the sixth, Walters launched a long home run to right, the Senators tied the game 4-4.

In the seventh, Dan Rohlfing led the inning off with a single and he moved around the bases to score the go ahead when Aaron Hicks bounced out to second off Hector Nelo.

In the last of the seventh, the newest Senator Brian Goodwin walked. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, to third on a ground out, but was left stranded with Tim Pahuta grounded out to first base ending the game. Danny Rosenbaum took the tough luck loss and falls to 7-7 on the season and B.J. Hermsen improves to 6-5 for New Britain. Dakota Watts earned his first save this season for New Britain.

Sean Nicol and Zach Walters had two hits each in the second game of the evening.
