Lumber Kings return to KROS
KROS was the original radio home of the Clinton Baseball Club for 39 consecutive seasons -- from 1954-92. The games were then broadcast on KCLN-AM 1390 for six seasons (1993-98) and then back to KROS for the 1999 season. The Lumber Kings just finished another six-year stint with KCLN before today's agreement.
"We had a great run with KCLN and we look forward to working together again with KROS as we head into the 2006 season," said Lumber Kings general manager Ted Tornow.
Gary Determan will be the new "voice" of the Lumber Kings. Gary will be returning for his second stint as the "voice" of the Clinton Baseball Club. Gary also broadcasted games from 1978-92 for the Clinton Dodgers and Clinton Giants.
"I look forward to coming back to the broadcast booth at Alliant Energy Field for the Clinton Lumber Kings," Determan said. "During my years of broadcasting Minor League Baseball, I have been fortunate enough to meet some great players like Willie Mays, Willie McCovey and Bob Feller, as well as all those players who make watching professional baseball on the minor league level exciting."
KROS general manager Wayne Larkey said, "We are thrilled to once again be carrying the Lumber Kings on KROS. I know we share the same devotion to the people of Clinton and are looking forward to working together in the coming years. KROS has been the area's sports leader since we first went on the air in 1941 and we are delighted that we can add the Lumber Kings to our roster of sports coverage.
"Gary Determan has more experience doing Lumber Kings games than anyone, except veteran sportscaster Hank Dihlmann, who did the games for 23 years on KROS. I think Lumber King fans are going to be pleased with Gary's ability and enthusiasm."
The 2006 season opener is at Burlington on Thursday, April 6. The home opener -- at newly renovated Alliant Energy Field -- will be on Thursday, April 13 against the Kane County Cougars. Game time is 6 p.m.
