Keys Drop Rubber Match 8-3

July 29, 2012
FREDERICK, MD - In a game Potomac led throughout, the Keys fell 8-3 to the Nationals as they lost the rubber match in front of 4,755 fans at Harry Grove Stadium.

The loss puts the Keys at 16-20 for the second half of the season and 43-63 overall.

Tyler Wilson, despite getting seven strikeouts and allowing no walks, was tagged with the loss as he gave up four earned runs through seven innings pitched.

After Wilson gave up three runs in the top of the second inning, the Keys fell into a hole they never got out of. Although the Keys got to within two runs entering the seventh inning, Potomac pulled away late, scoring three times to eventually put away the Keys for good.

Potomac got their three-run second inning started with two seeing-eye singles from Steven Souza Jr. and Jason Martinson to put runners on first and third with nobody out. A double from Stephen King brought home one run and after an infield single from JP Ramirez brought home a second runner, Potomac led 2-0. The Nationals would cap off their scoring with a rare RBI on a double-play ball to make it 3-0.

The closest the Keys got was in the sixth inning as Michael Mosby hit his third home run of the year, which cut the deficit to two.

Unfortunately for Frederick, the bullpen could not keep the two-run gap as reliever Matt Bischoff gave up three runs in the eighth inning - all on home runs - which extended Potomac's lead to 8-3, one they were able to hold the rest of the game.

After a day off on Monday, the Keys will head on the road to face Lynchburg and then Myrtle Beach in a six game road trip.

On Tuesday, the Keys will turn to LHP Trent Howard (2-7, 5.05 ERA) as he'll face RHP Michael Lee (1-1, 3.18 ERA).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and live coverage starts at 6:45 PM on 1450-AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
