Braves feast on Biscuits, 14-5

Leonard, Gosselin homer, Terdoslavich drives in four
July 31, 2012
Montgomery, AL - After five innings at Riverwalk Stadium, the Mississippi Braves and the Montgomery Biscuits were tied 1-1 on Monday night. But when the last out of the fifth was made, the phrase "pitchers duel" was uttered for the last time.

Mississippi scored 13 runs over the final four innings, Montgomery tacked on four, and the Braves dominated the Biscuits bullpen en route to a 14-5 victory in game two of a five-game series.

Phil Gosselin helped fuel the fire, hitting a three-run home run as part of a seven-run eighth inning. That made it 8-3 Braves (16-20; 46-60), and a few batters later Joey Terdoslavich drove in three with a bases-clearing triple. The inning turned a 4-3 squeaker into an 11-3 blowout.

Gosselin scored three different times on the night while posting four hits, and Joe Leonard scored four. Leonard also homered in the game, a solo shot to start the scoring in the second inning that bounced off the top of the right field wall before going over. It was his seventh round tripper of the season.

David Hale pitched five good innings in the no-decision. He allowed just a run on five hits while striking out four. Mike Tarsi earned the win, his first as a Brave. For Montgomery (22-15, 58-47), it was Kyle Lobstein on the hook after pitching 6 1/3 innings for four runs on six hits, taking his sixth loss of the season.

Todd Cunningham had a good day at the plate, going 3-for-5, extending his hit streak to ten games, the second double-digit hit streak he's had this season. He was one of five different Braves with multiple hits in the win. Terdoslavich drove in four on the night, one of six Braves to drive in a run.

The victory was Mississippi's sixth in their last seven.

The series is now tied at a game apiece going into game three of five on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM CT from Riverwalk Stadium. Right-hander JR Graham (0-0, 1.80) takes the hill for Mississippi against Biscuits righty Jake Thompson (7-8, 5.23).
