August 2, 2012
Salisbury, Md. - Former USA women's soccer team player Tisha Venturini is coming to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium for a special guest appearance on Friday, August 10 when the Shorebirds play the Augusta GreenJackets. Venturini will be on hand to sign autographs and meet fans. Venturini's appearance has been made possible by Azar Eye Institute.

Venturini's career began as a four year standout soccer player at the University of North Carolina. She was a 4-time All-American and a 4-time National Champion at UNC. She was the recipient of the 1994 Hermann Trophy, which is presented annually to the top player in NCAA Division 1 soccer.

Venturini then went onto play professionally for Team USA. She helped the USA win the World Cup in 1999. She was also instrumental in helping the USA win the 1996 and 2004 Olympic gold medals. She played on the USA national soccer team for nine years.

Fans will have the chance to get their photo taken with Venturini's 2004 Olympic Gold Medal.

"As part of our Azar Family, and on behalf of our team of caring perfectionists at Azar Eye Institute, I'm even extra excited for all the Olympic soccer fans in Salisbury. Why? Tisha's my daughter-in-law," said Dr. Azar.

Venturini's high school and college teams had an amazing combined record of 151-1-3.

On Friday, there will also be a fireworks show after the game presented by Wor Wic Community College. Plus, it's Emergency Preparedness Night. Learn tips on how to make sure your family is prepared, not scared when an emergency strikes.
