Mike Olt 93rd Pelican to the Majors

Rangers Purchase Contract of Double-A Infielder
August 2, 2012
MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Texas Rangers formally announced today that the club has purchased the contract of first baseman/third baseman Mike Olt from Double-A Frisco. To make room on the active 25-man roster for Olt, the club has optioned infielder/outfielder Brandon Snyder to Triple-A Round Rock. To make room on the 40-man roster for Olt, the team has transferred right-handed pitcher Colby Lewis from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list.

Olt becomes the sixth former Pelican to make it to the Majors this season and the third with the Rangers. Robbie Ross ('11) opened with the Rangers, Joe Wieland ('11) made the Padres, JJ Hoover ('09-'10) was summoned to the Reds, Gorkys Hernandez ('08) got the call to Pittsburgh and Justin Grimm ('11) started for the Rangers in June.

Last season with the Pelicans Olt hit .267 with 14 homeruns. He exploded onto the national scene when he led the Arizona Fall League with 13 homeruns. This season Olt hit .288 with Double-A Frisco, leading the organization with 28 homeruns. That total also leads all of Double-A.

Pelicans are present across Major League rosters, with former Birds having debuted for 20 different MLB clubs since the team came into existence in 1999. At least one Pelican has made his Major League debut with every Major League club that has a Carolina League affiliate.

The Pelicans return home for a six game homestand August third through the fifth and the seventh through the ninth against the Frederick Keys and Potomac Nationals. For tickets call the box office at 843-918-6000 or head online to MyrtleBeachPelicans.com, powered by TicketReturn.
