Mission Statement

August 4, 2012
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS-A five-run sixth inning spelled trouble for Frisco (19-22, 60-51) as the RoughRiders fell to San Antonio (22-19, 50-61) 8-2 Friday Night at Wolff Municipal Stadium. In the sixth inning, the Missions brought all nine men to bat, while doubles by Jake Blackwood and Jonathan Galvez put the game out of reach for Frisco.

The 'Riders were first to score following a very unusual play in the second inning. With two on and two out, Val Majewski reached on an infield single to the left side. Running hard, Ryan Strausborger attempted to score from second, and was successful after the throw by Nate Freiman went to the backstop. On the play, the Missions first baseman was charged with an error, but Majewski was still credited with his 18th RBI of the season.

Behind 1-0, San Antonio evened the score in the home half of the frame. Missions catcher Jason Hagerty doubled off Wilfredo Boscan (4-5), and scored two batters later on a single by Rymer Liriano.

In the fourth, Liriano would go after the RoughRiders a second time. Following a leadoff single by Nate Freiman and consecutive walks to Edinson Rincon and Jason Hagerty, the 21-year-old Liriano connected on a base hit to center. Two runs came home on the play, to give the Missions a 3-1 edge (its first lead of the night). It also marked the second time Liriano had recorded three RBIs against Frisco this season (he also accomplished the feat on July 19).

The 'Riders got one run back in the fifth after Leury Garcia singled, stole second base, and scored on a throwing error by Missions catcher Jason Hagerty. However the San Antonio bats exploded in the sixth, with nine men coming to the plate. Jake Blackwood and Jonathan Galvez led the way, with Blackwood doubling home a pair of runs, while Galvez added a two-bagger which scored three.

Down 8-2, the 'Riders bats were held in check for the duration of ballgame, with Dustin Pease, Michael Broadway, and Tom Layne combining on four shutout innings.

Adys Portillo (1-2) earned his first Double-A win for San Antonio, tossing five innings and permitting one run on three hits. Wilfredo Boscan suffered the loss for the RoughRiders going four innings and allowing three runs. He walked two and struck out two.

Frisco and San Antonio play the second of four games Saturday night. 12-game winner Barret Loux (12-1, 3.57) makes his 20th start of the season, and will be opposed by fellow right-hander Keyvius Sampson (7-8, 5.08). Sampson won his last start against the RoughRiders on Monday night, tossing six innings and allowing one earned run. First pitch is slated for 7:05 from Wolff Municipal Stadium, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:30.

The RoughRiders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on August 8, when the team begins a six-game homestand against the Tulsa Drillers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals. For ticket information, please call (972) 731-9200 or visit ridersbaseball.com.
