Mets sign RHP Scott Patterson
The Bisons also announced that OF KIRK NIEUWENHUIS has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to August 4.
Patterson, 33, has pitched in 26 games for the Tacoma Rainiers after signing a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners this off-season. The righty has posted a 1-3 record with a 2.89ERA and four saves. In 28.0 innings of work, he allowed just 25 hits while striking out 25 batters. Patterson made 10 scoreless appearances from June 13 - July 8, a stretch that included 10.2 innings pitched.
Patterson began his professional career in2002 with Gateway of the independent Frontier League. He joined affiliated baseball in 2006 after signing a contract with the New York Yankees. In 2008, Patterson made his major league debut in one game for the Yankees followed by three outings with San Diego after being claimed off waivers by the Padres. Overall, he posted a 1.93ERA (4.2IP, 4H, 7K) in his four career big league games.
In 2011, Patterson split the season with Double-A Jackson and Tacoma and led all Mariners minor leaguers with 19 combined saves.
Nieuwenhuis left Friday's 13-7 win over Syracuse in the second inning. In 4 total games since rejoining the Bisons on July 30, the outfielder had two hits in nine at-bats.
