Morgan wins Phillies pitcher of month award

Threshers pitcher Adam Morgan took home another honor over the weekend, as he earned recognition as the Philadelphia Phillies minor league pitcher of the month.

Morgan, selected in the third round of the June 2011 draft out of the University of Alabama, went 2-1 during the month with a 1.56 ERA. The 21-year-old struck out 53 batters in 40.1 innings.

The 6-foot-1 lefty capped off his month by flirting with perfection. On July 29 against Jupiter, Morgan retired the first 22 batters he faced and was perfect through 7.1 innings of work before allowing a base hit to Jacob Realmuto.

The southpaw has endured a bit of bad luck this year, posting an overall record of 4-10, despite a 3.29 ERA and .227 average against. Morgan has struck out 140 batters while walking only 28.

For his career, the Thresher stands at 7-13 with a 2.90 ERA.
