December 14, 2005
The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that Tom Prince has been named to manage the Williamsport Crosscutters for the 2006 season. Prince led Williamsport to a regular season record of 44-32 in 2005 and a berth in the post-season before losing to Staten Island two games to none in the NY-P semifinals.

Talking about his return to Billtown, Prince stated, "I'm looking forward to coming back. The fans gave us great support and I had an excellent group of guys to work with. It was fun being a part of it. I'm hopeful of another successful season with the Cutters."

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pirates in 1984, Prince played 519 games in parts of 17 seasons in the major leagues with the Pirates, Dodgers, Phillies, Twins and Royals hitting .208 with 24 home runs and 140 RBI's. He retired from his playing days following the 2003 season in which he appeared in 32 games with the Twins and the Royals.

Prince will be joined by pitching coach Bruce Tanner, the son of former Pirate manager Chuck Tanner and hitting coach Ryan Newman. Tanner was a 4th round draft pick by the Chicago White Sox in 1983 and was 1-2 with a 5.33 ERA in 10 major league games. He spent the last five seasons as the bullpen coach with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Newman, the son of former major league catcher Jeff Newman, played for the Crosscutters in 2002 hitting .198 in 37 games. He retired as a player following the 2004 season and was a coach for the Bradenton Pirates (Rookie) in 2005.

The Crosscutters open the 2006 season at home June 20 hosting the new State College Spikes. The full 2006 schedule is slated for release in the coming days. Season tickets and Bonus Book ticket plans are available by calling (570) 326-3389 or online at www.crosscutters.com.
