Chicago Cubs Select Contract of LHP Brooks Raley

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs selected the contract of LHP Brooks Raley from Iowa yesterday, and the southpaw made his major league debut against the San Diego Padres last night.

Raley, who also made his Triple-A debut with the I-Cubs this season, allowed seven runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out four in four innings to suffer the loss in the Padres' 7-4 victory. He did not allow a run until San Diego's four-run third inning and gave up a three-run homer to Carlos Quentin in the fourth.

The former Texas A&M Aggie was named the Chicago Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July, boasting a 2.12 ERA (7 ER/29.2 IP) in five starts for Iowa. Raley is 4-8 with a 3.62 ERA (33 ER/82.0 IP) in 14 starts at Iowa following a promotion from Double-A Tennessee on May 22. With the Smokies, he posted a 2-2 record and a 3.51 ERA (19 ER/48.2 IP) in eight starts.

The Cubs and Aces play game the finale of a four-game series today at Principal Park. Ryan Rowland-Smith (2-3, 4.10 ERA) will take the mound for Iowa against Reno's Tyler Skaggs (4-1, 1.73 ERA) at 12:05 p.m.
