Indy's Leroux silences Clippers bats
Columbus had no answers for Chris Leroux as the Indianapolis right-hander stifled the Clippers offense en route to a 4-0 Indians win.
Indianapolis would strike first offensively, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Chase d'Arnaud scored on an Alex Presley single to left.
In the top of the fourth, the Indians would use the power of the long ball as Yamaico Navarro and Tony Sanchez hit back-to back solo shots into the left field bleachers to augment their club's lead to 3-0. Indianapolis would then extend their advantage to 4-0 in the top of the seventh on a Brandon Boggs solo homer that just made it over the left field wall.
It would prove to be a tough night for the Columbus offense. Indy starter Chris Leroux (W, 2-0) virtually shut down the Clippers, blanking them on three hits while striking out four and walking one in seven innings of work. Even after Leroux exited following the seventh, the Columbus managed only one hit in the final two innings. It was the first time all season that the Clippers were shutout in a nine inning ballgame. T.J. McFarland (L, 5-6) was hit with the loss for Columbus.
The Clippers will wrap up its three game set with the Indians on Sunday night. Left-hander Matt Packer (0-1, 6.35) will look for his first ever win in a Columbus uniform. Indianapolis will retaliate with righty Daniel Cabrera (5-6, 4.59). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
