Right-Handed Pitcher Searle Promoted to Iowa

Right-Handed Pitcher De La Cruz Released

Tucson, AZ - Right-handed pitcher Ryan Searle joins the Iowa Cubs roster from high-A Daytona today. The Chicago Cubs also released right-handed pitcher Frankie De La Cruz in order for him to sign with the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions in Taiwan.

The Australian, who makes his first appearance on a Triple-A roster, is 5-3 with one save and a 5.01 ERA (26 ER/46.2 IP) in 28 outings, including one start at Daytona this season. Searle is 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA (1 ER/8.0 IP) in three relief outings in August.

Searle began the year at double-A Tennessee and posted a 1-2 record with a 4.07 ERA (11 ER/24.1 IP) in eight games, including two starts before his assignment to the Daytona Cubs on May 16.

The 2012 campaign is the 23-year-old's fifth in the Cubs organization. Searle holds a 29-32 record and a 4.04 ERA (197 ER/439.0 IP) in 135 minor league appearances with 65 starts.

De La Cruz, who was on the I-Cubs Opening Day roster, posted a 1-6 record with a 3.80 ERA (40 ER/94.2 IP) in 27 games, including 14 starts this season.

The Iowa Cubs and Tucson Padres play game two of a four-game series tonight at Kino Stadium tonight. The game starts at 9:05 p.m. central time and will be broadcast live on AM 940 beginning with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show at 8:45 p.m.
