Royce Bolinger Named Northwest League Player of the Week
Bolinger, a sixth-round pick in this year's MLB First-Year Player Draft, finished the week hitting an even .500 (14-28) with one double, one triple, six RBI, and four runs scored. The former Gonzaga Bulldog capped off his outstanding week with a 3-5 performance against Tri-City last night that extended his hitting streak to 20 games.
"Royce has stayed consistent with his approach at the plate all season and never let his early struggles slow him down," said manager Tim Hulett. "His performance last week shows how well he's seeing the ball right now and it's great to see his hard work paying off."
Bolinger's torrid stretch raised his season average to .294, the seventh best mark in the league, and his current 20 game hitting streak is tied with the Dust Devils' Tom Murphy for the longest in the NWL this year. According to Spokane baseball historian Jim Price, Bolinger's hitting streak puts him among the top 10 all-time in Indians history.
