Pair of Homers Lifts Eugene
Eugene used a throwing error from Everett starter Dylan Unsworth to get a one out base runner in the 1st. Stephen Carmon moved to second base on an Unsworth Balk and scored when Maxx Tissenbaum ripped a double to right center. Tissenbaum now has 24 runs batted in 37 games and the Ems had a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the second, Alberth Martinez singled to center and River Stevens reached on a perfectly placed bunt. Felix Cabrera stepped to the plate and knocked a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left giving the Ems a 4-0 lead. Cabrera now has seven RBI in just five games with Eugene. In the bottom of the third, Will Scott issued a one out and Ketel Marte followed with a two-out single bringing Taylor Ard to the plate with two on. Ard hit an opposite field bomb and the score stood 4-3. Ard increased his league-leading RBI total to 51.
Eugene added another run in the 5th after Jeremy Baltz was hit by a pitch with two outs. Two batters later Gabriel Quintana drove him in with a single making the score 5-3. Quintana would come back to the plate in the 7th with a man on and crush a homer to right field. Eugene entrusted the lead to Chris Nunn out of the pen for two innings. Nunn walked a pair but struck out four to get through the 8th.
Mark Picca started the 9th allowing a walk followed by an RBI double from James Zamarripa. Zamarripa's shot actually hit a pole on the other side of the fence but it was ruled a double. Pat Murphy turned to his closer Roman Madrid but he allowed an infield single to Brock Hebert. After recording a strikeout, Madrid got Ketel Marte to groundout scoring Zamarripa. That brought Ard to the plate representing the tying run but Madrid induced a grounder to third to end the ballgame.
Genison Reyes picked up the win to push his record to 3-2. Gabriel Quintana was the offensive star going 3-4 with three runs batted in. Quintana has now plated eight runs in nine games. Eugene moves their record to 41-25 on the year, the best record in the Northwest League with 10 games to play. However, if the season ended today they would be on the outside looking in at the playoffs. The Ems still sit a game back in the 2nd half standings.
Eugene heads to the Tri-Cities to take on the Dust Devils for five games starting Wednesday night first pitch on 95.3 the Score is scheduled for 7:05pm.
