Mavs renew lease with Adelanto

ADELANTO, Calif. -- The High Desert Mavericks and the City of Adelanto have signed a three-year lease with three one-year options that will keep the California League team at Stater Bros. Stadium, the home of the Mavericks, through at least the 2015 season, the City and team ownership announced on Thursday.

"We are so pleased to continue our partnership with the City of Adelanto and begin the process of improving the ballpark," said team owner, Dave Heller. "The Mavericks have been a valued part of the community throughout the High Desert for more than two decades now, and we are delighted to grow the partnership and ensure the team will remain an important part of the fabric of this community for years to come."

The Mavericks, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, have played at Mavericks Stadium, now Stater Bros. Stadium, since 1991. Main Street Baseball co-owners Heller and Bob Herrfeldt bought the team in 2010.

"When we bought the team, we wanted to do for the community here what we've already done in the Quad Cities, and that's make Minor League Baseball a great and affordable family-friendly entertainment alternative for families throughout the Valley," Herrfeldt said. "The common vision of the Mavericks and the City of Adelanto is to make the Mavericks a vital and thriving part of this community."

Heller and Herrfeldt added that they would begin making improvements to the stadium shortly after the season, and that fans would quickly notice the difference.

"From the moment people drive up to the ticket window, our fans will see things are different," Heller said. "There will be a new look, a new spirit and a new feel to the team and the facility. We can't wait to get started!"

The lease was approved by the City of Adelanto at its meeting Wednesday.

"The city is excited that they're staying," said city manager, Jim Hart. "It's a good thing to keep the Mavericks here, it's a good thing to create a new partnership with the new owners, and it's a good thing for the community to have the team here."

Main Street Baseball is bringing its ticket policy -- the most liberal ticket return policy in baseball -- to the High Desert. Beginning next season, any ticket purchased for any game can be exchanged up to one hour prior to game time for similar seats to any future Mavericks game, so long as space is available.
