Scrappers Fall In Extras
On Wednesday night the Scrappers lost on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth inning to the Batavia Muckdogs. On Thursday night, it was another heart breaker as they fell in extra innings, 2-1 to Batavia. Patrick Wisdom drove in Garrett Wittels from second base in the bottom of the eleventh inning.
Luis DeJesus took the mound looking to snap a three game losing streak. DeJesus did everything he could as he matched Batavia starter, Tyler Melling pitch for pitch. DeJesus cruised through the first four innings only allowing one hit. He took the mound in the fifth inning with a 1-0 lead. The first batter he faced, David Washington lifted a high fly ball to deep right field. Juan Romero looked like he was under the ball but was not able to make the catch as the ball hit off the wall and caromed towards centerfield. The bounce off the wall was enough to allow Washington to chug around the bases with a stand up inside the park homerun to tie the game at one. Neither team was able to score for the next five innings. In the bottom of the eleventh inning Wittels singled off of reliever Rafael Homblert to start the inning. With one out he stole second base and then Wisdom lined a 2-2 pitch down the leftfield line to score Wittels for the winning run.
The Scrappers lone run came in the top of the fourth inning. Richard Stock singled to start the inning and Evan Frazar then followed with another single to put runners at first and second with no outs. Andrew Campbell followed with a deep fly ball to rightfield. Stock was able to tag and advance to third. The next batter, Juan Romero then drove Stock to the plate with a sac fly to leftfield. Joe Wendle led the way for the Scrappers with two hits.
The Scrappers now move onto Auburn for a three game series with the division leading Auburn Doubledays. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 7:05 pm. The Scrappers will return home for the final home stand of the season on August 27. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 or click here to get your tickets for the games.
