Cowart Records 100th RBI, 66ers Fall 7-2
San Bernardino, CA- Inland Empire's (63-70, 32-32) fleeting playoff hopes took a significant hit with at 7-2 loss at the hands of the Lancaster JetHawks (70-64, 33-31) Tuesday night. On the plus side, third baseman Kaleb Cowart recorded his 100th RBI of the 2012 season.
Telvin Nash hit a grand slam in the third inning to put the game out of reach early on as Lancaster took a 7-0 lead.
JetHawks starter David Martinez cruised through the first five frames before IE was able to touch him up for a pair of runs in the sixth.
Rolando Gomez hit a double into the left field corner to score Taylor Linsday from first, followed by an RBI single from Cowart scoring Lindsay for the two runs. Cowart's 46th 66ers RBI coupled with his 54 with Low-A Cedar Rapids gives him 100 this season.
Game two of the three game series against the Lancaster JetHawks will take place Wednesday night at San Manuel Stadium. Eswarlin Jimenez (1-0, 1.29) will take the hill for IE opposite Blair Walters (2-2, 6.53) and the JetHawks.
