Win Streak Halted; Bulls Blanked Twice In Norfolk

August 29, 2012
Norfolk, VA --- The Durham Bulls' six-game winning streak was halted on Wednesday night, suffering a pair of shutouts to the Norfolk Tides in a doubleheader at Harbor Park.

Riding their longest winning streak of the year, the Bulls were victims of a two-hit, complete game by Jake Arrieta in the opener. Then in the nightcap, the Bulls managed just four hits against two Norfolk pitchers.

In the first game, Chris Archer worked the first inning, throwing 30 pitches, leaving the bases loaded, then leaving the game. Alex Torres, who was just activated from the disabled list, worked the next two innings, permitting the game's only run in the second inning. Adam Liberatore fanned five hitters over three scoreless innings.

In game two, Lance Pendleton (L, 8-6) retired the first nine batters he saw before a walk to Xavier Avery began the fourth. A single by Ryan Adams took Avery to third, who then scored on a force-out grounder by LJ Hoes. A double scored a second run. Brandon Waring hit a solo homer in the fifth.

The Bulls wrap up their short stay in Norfolk on Thursday night with Matt Torra (12-6) starting against Jason Berken at 7:15 PM ET.
