Jurickson Profar Promoted to Rangers

August 31, 2012
FRISCO, TEXAS (AUGUST 31, 2012)-Jurickson Profar will become the 107th former Frisco RoughRiders player to reach the Major Leagues as the Texas Rangers have announced that they will purchase his contract and promote the 19-year-old to the big club when rosters expand to 40 players on Saturday. Profar becomes the third member of the 2012 RoughRiders to make the Majors, joining pitcher Justin Grimm and infielder Mike Olt.

A native of Willemstad, Curacao, Profar earned his first promotion to Double-A after spring training, skipping the Advanced-A level. He was the MVP of the South Atlantic League last season and his string of accolades continued in his first season as a Texas Leaguer. Baseball America named the infielder the top prospect in the Rangers' farm system before the season and the second-best prospect among all Minor Leaguers in July; ESPN.com's Keith Law also listed him second in his Minor League rankings in May. In 126 games this season, Profar hit .281 (135 for 480) with a team-leading 26 doubles, seven triples, 14 home runs, 62 runs batted in, 76 runs scored and 16 steals.

Profar was named a mid-season and postseason Texas League All-Star and was also named the Texas League's "TOPPS Player of the Month" for May. That month, Profar's longest hitting streak of the season concluded after 29 games. That streak is tied for the second-longest in Minor League Baseball this season. He also had a 50-game on-base streak from April 7 - June 2, a streak that remains the longest in the Minors in 2012.

For the second straight year, Profar played for the World Team in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium. He went 2 for 3 in the contest with a solo home run in the first inning off Royals prospect Jake Odorizzi. The Rangers signed Profar as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2009.

The 'Riders will continue in their quest for a second Texas League championship without their star shortstop. Frisco concludes its regular season with a three-game series against the Midland RockHounds on Saturday at 7 p.m. The South Division Championship Series against Corpus Christi begins on Wednesday, September 5. Tickets for the playoffs may be purchased at the Dr Pepper Ballpark box office, by calling (972) 334-1993 or at www.ridersbaseball.com.
