Billings beats Brewers 5-2

September 3, 2012
In the Brewers last home game on August 27, the Brew Crew sent the home faithful home with a walkoff victory. For a moment on Monday night, it looked as though Helena might find the same fortune against the Billings Mustangs, before Jesus Adames struck out Raul Mondesi Jr. to earn the 5-2 victory.

The game got started off with a bang as four runs were scored in the first two frames. However, that would be all the scoring out of either squad for six consecutive frames.

In the top of the ninth, the Mustangs found a grove at the dish and plated three runners. Shortstop Zach Vincej started the rally with one out on a single into left field, but Jon Matthews had the big hit when he smashed a double over the head of outfielder Ruben Ozuna.

Despite trailing by three entering the bottom of the ninth, the Brewers refused to go quietly into the dark Labor Day night. With two outs, infielder Renaldo Jenkins gave the Brewers life with a double to right-centerfield. Ruben Ozuna then reached on a fielding error by second baseman Robert Ramirez. This brought up Mondesi with the opportunity to tie the game. Unfortunately for the Brewers, Adames got the punchout and recorded his first save of the season.

The Brewers return home tomorrow night in the final game of the season against the Billings Mustangs. First pitch is slated for 7:05 and the gates open at 6:00. It is Government Tuesday at the ballpark so all city, county, state and federal employees get $3 tickets courtesy of Westaff.
