SADAK NAMED TOP BROADCASTER IN CAROLINA LEAGUE

Also Honored By Ballpark Digest Among All MiLB Broadcasters
September 4, 2012
Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks proudly announce that lead play-by-play announcer John Sadak has been named the 2012 Carolina League Broadcaster as voted on by his peers. This was the inaugural year of the award.

The award is the brainchild of Carolina Mudcats radio announcer Darren Headrick and Potomac Nationals radio voice Tim Swartz. Headrick had worked in prior leagues where such an award was commonplace. Headrick presented the idea, Swartz liked it and a ballot was sent out to the league broadcasters.

"John was a unanimous selection by those who voted, and it's easy to understand why. John is, first and foremost, a professional in every aspect," said Headrick, who served as voting coordinator. "His broadcasts for Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball have a 'big league' feel. Not only does he possess a great voice, but he has an attention to detail that few can match."

"I think I can speak for all of the broadcasters in the Carolina League when I say it's been a pleasure to know, and work alongside, John during the summer," Headrick added.

Sadak also received accolades from web publication Ballpark Digest as top honorable mention for its 2012 Broadcaster of the Year award. Beyond his smooth call of the game, the publication recognized his work in advertising sales as well as negotiating the radio rights with the second-year flagship station of the Wilmington Blue Rocks, Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM.

The "Voice of the Blue Rocks" also does the radio play-by-play for the 26-time Ivy League champion Princeton University men's basketball team and the nationally-ranked University of Delaware women's basketball squad. In the last year, the two-time Delaware Sportscaster of the Year's freelance work has grown to include national play-by-play with the Dial Global radio network and the ESPN family of networks.

The "Drive for Five" gets underway on Wednesday night as the four-time Carolina League champion Wilmington Blue Rocks chase another Mills Cup. Game One of the North Divison Championship Series is at 6:35 p.m. when the Lynchburg Hillcats visit Frawley Stadium. Call 302-888-BLUE for ticket information or visit bluerocks.com.
