Loman and Rodriguez Named Barons' Best In 2012
The Birmingham Barons announced today that first baseman Seth Loman has been named the 2012 Barons Player of the Year while reliever Santos Rodriguez was named the team's Pitcher of the Year.
Loman, 26, spent nearly all of the 2012 season with the Barons before being promoted to Triple-A Charlotte on August 30th. In his second full season with the Barons, Loman hit .276 (114-for-413) with 16 home runs, 55 runs scored and 58 RBI in 115 games. In 53 games after the All-Star Break, Loman hit .324 (58-for-179) with seven home runs, nine doubles, 30 runs scored and 29 RBI. He also led the Barons in slugging percentage (.458) and 189 total bases. In two seasons in Birmingham, Loman compiled 35 home runs, 108 runs scored and 123 RBI.
Rodriguez, 24, was one of the Barons most dominant arms out of the bullpen in 2012. In his first year at the Double-A level he posted a record of 2-4 with a 2.81 ERA (20 ER/ 64.0 IP) with 60 strikeouts in 64.0 innings pitched spanning 47 appearances. He also converted eight-of-nine save opportunities while Southern League batters hit just .153 against the hard-throwing lefty. Rodriguez was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte on August 18th.
