Two-year contract extension runs through 2014 season
September 6, 2012
SAN JOSE, CA- The San Jose Giants announced today that they have extended their Player Development Contract with the San Francisco Giants for two more years. The new Player Development Contract will keep San Jose an affiliate of San Francisco through 2014.

"We're extremely pleased to maintain our relationship with the San Francisco Giants and continue developing future major leaguers." said San Jose Giants Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Mark Wilson. "In the 25 year association between the two teams, the San Jose Giants have produced 154 major leaguers, 110 of whom played or currently play for San Francisco. This agreement helps to ensure that fans in San Jose will continue to see major league talent at Municipal Stadium for the foreseeable future."

2010 Rookie of the Year Buster Posey, two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, Brandon Belt, Madison Bumgarner, Matt Cain, Sergio Romo, Hector Sanchez, Pablo Sandoval and Ryan Vogelsong are just a few of the players that have spent time at Municipal Stadium before making it to the majors. Since becoming affiliated with San Francisco in 1988, the San Jose Giants have claimed one of the best records in Minor League Baseball while winning six California League Championships (2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2001 and 1998).

"We have been with the San Jose Giants for two and a half decades and the relationship between the two organizations could not be better", said San Francisco Giants Vice President of Baseball Operations Bobby Evans. "The hard-working front office along with the team's strong fan base make San Jose a great place to cultivate talent and for our top prospects to develop."

The San Jose Giants continue their march towards a 12th California League Championship tonight against the Modesto Nuts. The Giants defeated the Nuts 3-1 in Game 1 of their best-of-three Mini-Series last night at Municipal Stadium. Tonight's Game 2 and, if necessary, tomorrow's Game 3 will take place in Modesto.
