RESZ Captures Battle of Bands
CORPUS CHRISTI -- Local rock/alternative band RESZ, founded in 2009, opens Ziegfest 2012 at Whataburger Field on Saturday, October 6.
In a House of Rock competition completed last week, RESZ emerged from a Final Four determined by on-line balloting at texashouseofrock.com and facebook.com/ZiegfestCC
The more oId-fashioned voting method of patrons placing tickets in the jar of their favorite group pushed RESZ over the top Thursday. Comprised of Adrian Guerra (vocals), Pete Soares (guitar), Rick Pimentel (guitar), Tomas Rosales (bass) and Phillip Hand (drums), RESZ prevailed over The Amazing Octopi, Witness By Proxy and The Racket Boys.
An even dozen bands joined the contest initially. House of Rock owner Casey Lain encouraged acts across the rock, blues, country, Americana and funk genres to enter.
On the 6th, RESZ is in lead-off position when Whataburger Field gates open at 3 p.m. Headliner Pat Green, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, Shooter Jennings, Bob Schneider, the Ian Moore Band and Jesse Dayton fill out the bill for an awesome afternoon and evening of country, rock, blues, funk and folk.
Bigger and better than ever, Ziegfest runs October 5-6 at Whataburger Field. The event is presented by Ziegenbock, CPL Retail Energy and Ryan-Sanders Entertainment. Media partners are the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, K*99 and KIII-TV3.
The action begins Friday in the West Parking Lot with the IBCA-sanctioned "No Excuses" Bar-B-Q Cook-Off, which runs from 4-10 Friday and continues Saturday at 11. Local acts perform in the parking lot Friday between 4 and 9:30. Dayton plays the Bud Light Stage Friday at 8:30.
Tickets are $30 and available at whataburgerfield.com, by calling 361-561-4665 or visiting the Whataburger Field box office.
