Mariners and LumberKings Extend Player Development Contract

The Clinton LumberKings Baseball Club and the Seattle Mariners are pleased to announce a two-year extension of the player development contract through the 2014 season. The current contract with the Midwest League affiliate was set to expire at the end of this month."We are pleased to extend the player development contract with the Mariners organization," said LumberKings general manager Ted Tornow. "The last four seasons with Seattle have been very successful ones for our ball club. The players that have come through Clinton in the Mariners organization have been exciting players to follow."
The LumberKings have been affiliated with Seattle since 2009. During that time, Clinton has reached the Midwest League Playoffs three out of the four years and set a 76-year franchise record with 48 wins in the second half of the 2012 regular season.
"It's a great day for the Seattle Mariners organization and we are excited to be with Clinton for at least two more seasons," said Mariners director of player development Chris Gwynn. "We have developed a close relationship with the LumberKings' staff and those involved with Clinton baseball. A major element in our player development is to teach winning baseball and we're confident we'll continue to do that and keep the rich history of playoff baseball in Clinton."
As well as renewing with Clinton, Seattle extended every minor league affiliate for two years. AAA-Tacoma, AA-Jackson, Advanced-A High Desert, R-Everett and R-Pulaski all remain with the Mariners organization.
