Ragan Continues Pitching Success

April 18, 2008
Columbus, Georgia- The South Atlantic League's reining pitcher of the week, Jason Ragan, made another outstanding start for Columbus, as the Catfish downed the Charleston RiverDogs 6-3 at Golden Park. Ragan improved to 3-0 as Columbus pushed their record over the .500 mark for the first time in the 2008 season; handing Charleston their third loss of the season and their second in as many nights.

The Catfish offense came out firing in the bottom of the first, picking up 2 runs after Cody Cipriano reached on a hit-by-pitch, followed by a single from Maiko Loyola. Cipriano then scored on a RBI groundout from Greg Sexton. Loyola would score one batter later, on a passed ball third strike to make the score 2-0.

Charleston would score their only run off of Ragan in the top of the fifth inning on a double down the left field line from Jesus Montero. Austin Romine would single Montero in for the RiverDogs first run and the only run allowed by Jason Ragan thus far this season. Columbus would get the run back in the bottom of the inning on an error by Charleston second baseman Justin Snyder, allowing Omar Luna to score for the Catfish's third run of the game.

After Seth Dhaenens doubled to begin the bottom of the seventh inning, Emeel Salem would move him to third base on a bunt single. Cipriano then sacrifice bunted, fielded by Charleston first baseman Wady Rufino, allowing Dhaenens to score from third.

Kevin Boggan came in to relieve Jason Ragan in the top of the eighth inning and allowed two hits and two runs. Columbus' defense would also commit 2 errors in the inning, 1 from second baseman Cipriano and the other from first baseman Henry Wrigley. The Catfish would get the runs back in the bottom of the inning, and Kevin Boggan would close out the game for Columbus' sixth win in their last seven games.
