PawSox broadcaster Dave Jageler joins Nationals
Jageler, 34, spent just one season on the PawSox Radio Network and joins former PawSox radio voices Dave Flemming (San Francisco Giants in 2004) and Andy Freed (Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2005) in an unprecedented three-peat. The PawSox have now proudly seen one of their radio broadcasters earn the call to the big leagues during each of the last three off-seasons - a feat believed to be unmatched in Minor League Baseball.
"I am proud to continue the tradition of broadcasters who move from McCoy Stadium to the majors," said Jageler. "I'd like to express my sincere thanks to everyone with the PawSox for allowing me to be a part of a great organization and a memorable 2005 season. This opportunity with the Washington Nationals is a dream come true. The D.C. area is passionate about baseball and I look forward to getting started."
Jageler, who currently resides in Barrington, RI with his wife Jennifer and children Jared and Sarah, was chosen from over 100 applicants to replace Andy Freed (PawSox from 2001-04) when Freed was named to his current post with Tampa Bay last February. During Jageler's one year with Pawtucket he worked with current PawSox broadcaster Steve Hyder who himself was selected to replace Dave Flemming (PawSox from 2001-03) when Flemming earned the call to San Francisco prior to the 2004 season. Other former PawSox broadcasters who have gone from Pawtucket to the majors include Don Orsillo (Boston in 2001) and Gary Cohen (New York Mets in 1989).
"Dave Jageler is a talented, young broadcaster who, in only one season, left his mark with fans of PawSox Baseball," said PawSox President Mike Tamburro. "The PawSox family wishes him the very best in his new position with the Washington Nationals. Dave now takes his rightful place in the long line of PawSox broadcasters who have graduated to the Major Leagues."
