Francisco Optioned to Herd

Sowers promoted for start vs. Yankees

The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have optioned OF Ben Francisco to the Buffalo Bisons and recalled Herd LHP Jeremy Sowers.

Sowers will start for the Tribe tonight against the New York Yankees.

Francisco was recalled to the Indians on April 22 when the team put RHP Jake Westbrook on the 15-day disabled list. Francisco played in two games with Cleveland, with 2 hits in 6AB including a double and an RBI. He hit .208 (15-72) with 3RBI in 18 games with Buffalo to begin the season.

Last season, Francisco won the International League batting championship with a .318 average in 95 games with the Herd. In 2006, he was named Buffalo's Co-Most Valuable Player after hitting .278 with 17HR and 59RBI in 134 games.

Sowers started four games with Buffalo this year and was 0-2 with a 3.18ERA (22.2IP, 19H, 9R/8ER, 8BB, 16K).
