Baysox Playing in Arizona Fall League
Wright was the Orioles third round pick in the 2011 First Year Player Draft. He was the first Orioles player from his draft class to advance to Double-A after joining the Baysox in May. After battling an injury in June, Wright went 5-3 with a 4.91 ERA in 12 starts and 62.1 innings of work in Bowie.
Schrader started the season in Advanced-A Frederick, going 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA and four saves in 23 games. He was promoted to Bowie to make his Double-A debut in late June. He went 1-0 with a 2.74 ERA with one save in 19 games with the Baysox.
Belfiore began the year in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization but was traded to the Orioles in May as the player to be named later to complete the Josh Bell trade. He joined the Baysox in late May and was one of the most reliable relievers for the rest of the season. He went 5-1 with a 2.85 ERA in 28 games and struck out 50 batters while walking 21.
Petrini was the Baysox long-reliever out of the bullpen for most of the season. He joined the team in May after spending the first month of the season in Frederick and went 6-3 with a 2.62 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 24 games and 68.2 innings of work.
Ward was the Baysox starting catcher during the second half of the 2012 season. He joined the team in June and played in 50 games, batting .217 with 12 RBI. As the everyday catcher late in the season, he threw out 29 percent of base stealers.
Entering the season ranked by Baseball America as the third best prospect in the Orioles system, Schoop spent the entire season with the Baysox and started as the everyday second baseman before moving back to his natural position at shortstop in August after Manny Machado was promoted to Baltimore. Schoop led the team with 14 home runs and batted .245 with 24 doubles and 56 RBI in 124 games.
A Bowie native, Hoes is the only Orioles AFL player who did not finish the season with the Baysox. He spent the first two months of the season with the Baysox, batting .265 in 51 games before being promoted to Triple-A Norfolk. He shined at the next level, batting .300 with 14 doubles and 38 RBI while patrolling the outfield. Hoes thought his season was over when Norfolk played its final game, but he received a surprise promotion to the Orioles September 11 and he made his Major League debut September 25.
Fall League games run from the beginning of October to the middle of November and provide an opportunity for Double-A and Triple-A players to improve their skills with 32 games against top competition during the offseason.
The Mesa Solar Sox roster is made up of players from the Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers, along with the Baltimore Orioles. All seven of the players provided by the Orioles spent time in Bowie this season.
Six teams comprise the competition in the Arizona Fall League, which is now in its 20th season, and the teams play in Spring Training facilities located in Arizona. The Solar Sox are playing their games at HoHoKam Stadium, the Spring Training facility of the Chicago Cubs.
