Delmarva Takes Series From Lexington, 6-1

May 3, 2008
The Delmarva Shorebirds scored three runs on a bases loaded wild pitch, as they defeated the Lexington Legends 6-1. Lexington starter Carlos Ladueth uncorked a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth, allowing Matthew Angle to score.

Matthew Tucker and Tyler Henson also came home on the play after Ladueth committed a throwing error. Lexington failed to carry the positive momentum from its 9-5 win Thursday night.

The Legends loss secured the series win for the Shorebirds, three games to one.

Delmarva got a strong showing from starter Sean Gleason. Gleason only lasted four innings, failing to qualify for the win, but surrendered only one hit while walking no Legends and striking out four.

The Legends actually began the scoring in the fifth against Delmarva reliever Clifford Flagello with their only run of the ninth. Eric Taylor, Kevin Carkeek and Nick Moresi reached base through two singles and an error. Roberto Mena then drove Taylor home on a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Shorebirds added an insurance run in the seventh inning against Lexington reliever Mike Koons. Koons retired the first two batters in the inning before Tucker tripled to center. Tyler Henson then reached on a single to third baseman Craig Corrado and Tucker scored.

Delmarva added two more runs in the ninth on a bases-loaded single from Ryan Adams. Adam's base hit scored Joseph Nowicki and Calvin Lester.

Legends second baseman Matthew Cusick saw his ten-game hitting streak come to an end. In his final at bat of the game Cusick reached base after being hit by a pitch from Brett Bordes.

The Legends travel to Lakewood tomorrow to face the BlueClaws in a weekend series. Delmarva and Lexington will meet again Thursday at Applebee's park in Lexington.
