Cubs Win Sixth In A Row
Hoffpauir got the Cubs on the board in the first inning with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field to give Iowa a 2-0 lead.
Portland took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on a three-run home run by Beavers' center fielder Will Venable.
The lead did not last long as the Cubs answered in the bottom half of the inning. Bobby Scales drove in Hoffpauir and Josh Kroger on a two RBI single to right field for a 4-3 Iowa lead.
Cubs lefty Sean Marshall, making his second start of the season for Iowa and first since being optioned by Chicago on Friday, did not factor in the decision. Marshall struck out three and allowed three hits on the night, while throwing only 63 pitches.
Getting the win was Randy Keisler (3-3), who gave up only a pair of hits in four innings of work out of the bullpen.
Iowa tagged Portland starter Josh Geer (2-4) for 10 hits and five runs in six innings of work as the right-hander took the loss for the Beavers.
Venable finished the night 3-for-4 with home runs in the fourth and ninth inning.
Six Cubs had multiple hits in the win, including Hoffpauir who finished the evening 3-for-4 while driving in four. Seven of Iowa's 14 hits were for extra base hits, including a pair of doubles by left fielder Matt Murton.
