Royals salute Lancers' national championship

May 19, 2008
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha Royals will recognize and celebrate the Omaha Lancers recent winning of a national championship at the Royals game this Thursday, May 22, at Rosenblatt Stadium. The Royals face the Iowa Cubs at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, when Lancers president/G.M. and former head coach Mike Hastings will throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Several Lancers players, including team captain Chris Hepp, will also be in attendance.

Fans at Thursday night's contest will have an opportunity to get autographs from Hastings and the Lancers players before and during the game. The fans will also have the opportunity to have a photo taken with the Clark Cup trophy, which will be on display in the stadium's front plaza.

Any Lancers season ticket holder may show their I.D. card at the Royals ticket windows for a $2 discount on any level of seat for Thursday night's game.

"We're excited to have the Clark Cup champion Lancers come out to the game," said Royals assistant general manager/group sales Eric Leach. "It's great to be able to recognize all area championship teams, especially one that captured a title of this magnitude."

The Lancers won the Clark Cup title, as well as the Tier 1 Junior National hockey title at the Mid-America Center on May 10, when they defeated the Waterloo Black Hawks, 4-3, in overtime. It was the Lancers seventh Clark Cup championship and their third title under Hastings. In addition to earning the league postseason title with the five-game victory, the Lancers claimed their first national championship since earning the Junior A national crown in 2001.
