Where Are They Now: Robinzon Diaz

November 7, 2012
In the long line of outstanding catching prospects to come to New Hampshire, one of the earliest was Robinzon Diaz.  In 2007, he played 74 games with the Fisher Cats, hitting at a .316 clip with 17 doubles and three home runs.  The young Dominican also threw out 30% of would-be base stealers en route to both an Eastern League All-Star nomination and a berth in the MLB Futures Game in San Francisco.

Diaz made his major league debut with the Blue Jays the following season, and then was involved in, at the time, a trade of little consequence.  Looking back, you can see why the Blue Jays shipped Diaz to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a journeyman outfielder by the name of Jose Bautista.

Since leaving the Jays, Diaz reached the majors with the Pirates in 2009.  He joined the Tigers a year later before splitting time in the Rangers and Angels organizations over the last two seasons.

Diaz is once again playing in his native Dominican Republic Winter League, and he is tearing it up for Gigantes del Cibao.  On a team with former Fisher Cat Moises Sierra, Diaz is leading the way with a .344 average thanks in part to three more hits on Tuesday.  Diaz is second in the league in hitting and has driven home ten runs in 15 games.

The 29-year-old is currently a member of the Rangers organization.
