Nieves Named New Red Sox Pitching Coach
(Fort Mill, SC) – The Boston Red Sox announced that Juan Nieves, who was the pitching coach for the Charlotte Knights from 2005-07, was named as the team’s new pitching coach on Wednesday, November 7. Nieves joins manager John Farrell’s staff in Boston.
A resident of South Carolina, Nieves spent five seasons as the bullpen coach of the Chicago White Sox from 2008-2012. Before that he spent nine seasons as a coach in the White Sox minor league system. In all, he spent 14 seasons in the White Sox organization.
Nieves, 47, spent three seasons in the Majors with Milwaukee from 1986-1988. He went 32-25 with a 4.71 ERA over that span (490.2 innings pitched). On April 15, 1987, Nieves became the first pitcher in Brewers history and first native of Puerto Rico to throw a no-hitter.
