Rocks hit attendance milestone

May 27, 2008
Wilmington, DE -- On Sunday, May 25, the Wilmington Blue Rocks welcomed their five millionth fan to Frawley Stadium in the club's 16th season of operation. Six-year-old Ryan Higgins from Newark, DE was greeted by team mascot Rocky Bluewinkle and members of the GEICO Fun Patrol upon entering the first-base side gate during the middle of the second inning of the Blue Rocks' contest versus the Lynchburg Hillcats.

Higgins, along with his parents, brother and sister were upgraded to a luxury suite for the evening's ballgame. He was honored at home plate following the contest and even got to push the plunger to begin the night's postgame fireworks show that he and his family watched from the field.

Among the gifts Higgins received from the Blue Rocks staff were a personalized Blue Rocks jersey, an autographed baseball, a certificate for a first pitch, tickets for he and his family to any Blue Rocks game this season, and a luxury suite for a future date. Each family member was also given a special t-shirt.

The Blue Rocks have led the Carolina League in attendance for the past 10 seasons. "It's very exciting for the Blue Rocks to be able to welcome their five millionth fan in our 16th season" said Jared Forma, director of ticket operations and sales. The Blue Rocks continue to provide affordable family entertainment and this year's "Showtime" approach seems to be paying off, as the Blue Rocks have seen a slight increase in attendance already.

"Blue Rocks fans continue to be the best in minor league baseball and I'm glad we had the opportunity to honor them," said Blue Rocks general manger Chris Kemple.
