to know…Anthony Rendon
After completing his high school career at Lamar High School in Houston, Texas, Anthony Rendon was faced with the decision of beginning his professional career or playing collegiately instead. Taken in 27th round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves, Rendon elected to stay in his hometown to play at national power, Rice. The decision paid dividends for the now 22 year-old Rendon. Over his three seasons with the Owls, Rendon hammered 52 home runs, drove in 194, and hit .371.
Rendon exploded onto the national scene in 2009 at Rice by leading Conference USA in batting average, slugging percentage, and home runs on his way to being named the National Freshman of the Year. Rendon built on the outstanding freshman campaign by being named the Howser Trophy Winner as National Player of the Year as a sophomore.
Upon becoming draft eligible once again, Rendon was taken in the first round (6th overall) by the Washington Nationals in the 2011 MLB Draft. After an ankle injury sidelined him for of his first professional season, Rendon has started his ascent through the Minor Leagues, playing in only 22 professional games before reach Double-A Harrisburg.
2012 Highlights
• 1st Double-A HR on 8/20 against Reading was the last of back-to-back-to-back HR’s hit by the Senators
• Hit 1st professional HR on 7/23 while rehabbing from an ankle injury with the GCL Nationals
• Hit 3 2B’s and scored 4 runs while appearing in 8 spring training games with the Nationals this season

Three things to know about Anthony Rendon
• During the offseason Anthony enjoys checking out cars and playing a lot of golf
• If he wasn’t a baseball player Anthony would coach or work in Sports Marketing
• Hitting his first out of the park HR when he was 8 years old ranks as one of his top memories of his baseball career
