Rattlers Alumni Report 5/30
We've got some alumni getting healthy, and some getting injured in this edition of The Report, plus a new home for a career Mariner. The Hot 'N Cold section was expanded to again include the Majors and alumni no longer with Mariners.
Transactions
Seattle optioned C Jeff Clement ('05) to Tacoma (PCL)
Clement hit .167 for the Mariners while getting sporadic playing time. He returned to Tacoma, where he celebrated his demotion by hitting a grand slam in his second game back.
Seattle designated RHP Cha Seung Baek ('00, '07) for assignment
San Diego acquired RHP Cha Seung Baek from Seattle for RHP Jared Wells
After 10 seasons in the Mariners organization, Baek's time in Seattle came to an end. Just a few days after designating him for assignment, Seattle found a taker for him. The Padres plan on putting him in the rotation. Baek has a career ERA of 4.96 in 168.2 innings.
Atlanta activated RHP Rafael Soriano ('00) from the 15-day DL
Projected to be the Braves closer to enter the season, Soriano made only three appearances before hitting the disabled list with discomfort in his elbow.
Philadelphia recalled OF T.J. Bohn ('03) from Lehigh Valley (IL)
Bohn makes his second trip of the year to the Majors. He's really struggled in the Minors, hitting just .197 in 99 at bats, but he has nearly as many RBI with the Phillies (3 in 5 at bats), as he did for the Iron Pigs (4).
New York Yankees activated 3B Alex Rodriguez ('94 Foxes) from the 15-day DL
The Yankees were happy to get A-Rod back, as he hit home runs in his first two games off the disabled list.
Houston agreed to terms with RHP Jorge Sosa ('01) on a minor league contract
Sosa was recently given his walking papers with the Mets, but quickly got another opportunity, this time with the Astros. Sosa, a converted outfielder, made the jump from Wisconsin in 2001 to the Major Leagues with Tampa Bay in '02. His best season came with the Braves in 2005, when he went 13-3 with a 2.55 ERA.
St. Louis placed RHP Joel Pineiro ('98) on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 21
A groin injury sends Pineiro to the DL for the second time this season. He has made eight starts for the Cardinals, going 2-3 with a 4.50 ERA.
Northern League
Winnipeg Goldeyes released RHP Ivan Blanco ('05)
Blanco was horrible for High Desert last season (10.72 ERA in 22.2 innings) and couldn't crack the independent Goldeyes roster this spring.
