Former Helena Brewer Diggs to Manage 2013 Crew

December 18, 2012
The Milwaukee Brewers have announced their Player Development staff for the 2013 season. Tony Diggs will manage the Helena Brewers in 2013, his tenth season in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Since 2006, Diggs has served as the Assistant Director - Player Development/Training Center. He also managed the Arizona Brewers for the past five seasons. In 2010, Diggs was named Arizona League Manager of the Year, having led the team to a 34-22 record and the Arizona League championship. Previously, he served as a hitting coach in the organization with Class-A Beliot (2004) and Class-A Brevard County (2005).

Prior to joining the Brewers, Diggs was a minor league hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals (1998-99, 2002-03). He also spent two years as Director of Player Development/MLB Consultant with the International Baseball League of Australia and was a consultant for Team Australia in the 2000 Olympics.

Diggs was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 6th Round of the 1989 First Year Player Draft, and played two seasons in Helena. During his playing career, Diggs spent eight seasons in the Brewers (1989-93) and St. Louis Cardinals (1994-96) organizations.

"I am very excited and looking forward to coming to Helena as the manager this year," says Diggs. "Helena and the Northwest is one of my favorite parts of the country. I get the chance to manage the first Professional team I played for and not too many people have the chance to do that. I have great memories of the team and league and hopefully we get a chance to make many more. I look forward to working with the Helena front office staff, as I know many of them and already share a good relationship with them as well."

Dwayne Hosey joins the Helena Brewers as Hitting Coach. Hosey joined the Brewers organization in 2010 and spent two seasons as a coach with Class-A Brevard County before moving to the Double-A Huntsville Stars in 2012. He played 15 professional seasons in nine organizations (White Sox, Athletics, Brewers, Padres, Royals, Red Sox, Expos, Angels and in Japan for the Yakult Swallows), including parts of two seasons in the Major Leagues with Boston (1995-96).

Pitching Coach Elvin Nina will be returning to Helena for his fifth season. In 2011, Nina led the Helena pitching staff that recorded the second-lowest ERA in the Pioneer League.

Season tickets and bonus books are now available at the Brewers office and online. Early Bird special pricing is in effect until December 21, 2012. Call 406-495-0500 or visit www.helenabrewers.net for details. Follow the Brewers on Twitter @helenabrewers and Facebook at facebook.com/helenabrewers.
