Mets Sign Outfielder Andrew Brown to Minor League Contract

FLUSHING, N.Y., January 2, 2013 - The New York Mets today announced that they have signed outfielder Andrew Brown to a minor league contract and invited him to major league Spring Training.

Brown, 28, hit .232 (26-112) with 14 runs scored, seven doubles, five home runs and 11 RBI in 46 games with Colorado in 2012. The 6-0, 185-pounder was also named to the Pacific Coast League postseason and midseason All-Star teams after batting .308 (120-390) with 81 runs scored, 33 doubles, 24 home runs, 98 RBI, 37 walks and 100 strikeouts at Colorado Springs (AAA).

The Dallas, Texas native appeared in 12 games (nine starts) in left field and in 24 games (19 starts) in right field with three outfield assists for the Rockies last season.

Brown went 4-22 (.182) with three RBI in 11 contests with St. Louis in 2011, his first action in the majors. He also was named to the midseason PCL All-Star team with Memphis (AAA) in 2011 after hitting .284 (102-359) with 67 runs scored, 12 doubles, 20 home runs and 73 RBI in 107 games.
